The Canadian MedicAlert Foundation joins the new TELUS health space™, powered by Microsoft® HealthVault™ platform to better serve its members

Toronto, ON, May 31, 2010 - As Canada’s leading provider of emergency medical information services, the Canadian MedicAlert Foundation is partnering with TELUS Health Solutions to take advantage of the new TELUS health space platform as it will empower members to take a more active role in the management of their heath.

The service will be the first of its kind in Canada, letting Canadians manage and store their personal health information and have access to applications like personal health records, chronic disease management, pediatric care and wellness products that will allow better management of their health and the health of their family.

MedicAlert will offer TELUS health space to its members as an optional value-add service, enhancing their ability to manage health information.

Joining the TELUS health space platform will enable MedicAlert to extend its reach and help fulfill its mission to protect more Canadians in need of its emergency medical information services. MedicAlert will develop co-marketing relationships with members of the health space ecosystem, providing their clients with the option of using their health space information to sign up for MedicAlert protection.

MedicAlert President and CEO, Robert Ridge says, “With a TELUS health space record, MedicAlert members will be able to upload readings from personal medical devices, track medications and history, keep their profile and medical record up-to-date and, through a consent management tool, share that information with their doctor, pharmacy and emergency personnel.” Ridge adds, “by working with TELUS, we will also be able to offer our membership access to the latest Smart Phone technologies and accompanying mobile health applications.”

TELUS health space will make the service available to organizations such as governments, health regions, hospitals, insurers and employers, who would like to offer the service to their constituents. TELUS will operate health space’s infrastructure and securely host all stored health data in Canada to help ensure consumer privacy.
